Know Thyself

[This is the natal chart of someone I know; for some reason I couldn't understand this chart for many days, until today.I'll be using a pseudo name (anon) for this person since I'm sure they wouldn't like their names to be revealed.]

A First Look [Sorta]

  • Most of the planets are in the North Leftern hemisphere. A lot of generational (slow moving) planets are in the 12th house of hidden enemies, sorrows, secrets, and hidden potential. However, Uranus is in 1 degree, it sort of leads the others - and is important. This person experiments the lesser known facets of life - engrossed in psychic phenomena, spiritual, sacrificing, and a loner.
  • Notice that the Sun is at the end of the 12th house.. it's almost in the 1st house, so the Sun is in both places at one time. Makes Anon somewhat bipolar. Sometimes, there are withdrawals from the real world, and sometimes there's a strong need to 'shine'. Also, this duality brings maturity - learning comes from both solitude and facing the world.
  • Ruler of 12th house is in 4th house. Somehow all the pain, sorrow, secrets - and development of the subconscious is related to Anon's home, her family life. A lot about Anon's life is connected to her family.
  • Mercury rising - in aquarius, this is someone who adapts to languages/cultures, different types of cliques - very easily. A highly changeable personality - chamelion like.. Anon can impress almost everybody, because it's easy for her..however, Mercury is in an air sign .. so there's no permanence..Anon gets bored of her personalities quickly and changes them at the blink of an eye.
  • Mars is strongly placed, in Aries (natural ruler increased pontency) - in the third house of communication. Now here's a sharp mouth, verbal attacker, intimidating to talk to.
  • Now, let's look at the Peregrine planets - according to Noel Tyl, Peregrine planets make no major aspects to other planets, except for personal points such as Asc,Mc, North Node, and asteriods. Moon in this chart is Peregrine - it makes no major aspect with any of the known planets.. and morevover - it's the ruler of an empty 7th house (house of relationships, partnerships, the PEOPLE).. this moon is special - in a fire sign, and in the house of wishes and groups. Anon's happiness lies in her interaction with a group - that believes in the same things as she does. She wants to belong to a cause, to a club - and make a difference with teamwork. She feels her best in teams that think alike and spends her entire life looking for people who are like her. Since the Moon rules her 7th house, she also might meet her significant other through a group - or a highly likely chance of being a spinster.
  • Pluto in Scorpio is strong, but it's generational - but Pluto is in the 10th house of recognition in Anon's chart. She appears somewhat intimidating in her approach with the world, goes through rebirth (pluto) several times in this lifetime. Also, Pluto makes a very close aspect[sextile orb 0 degrees] with the bipolar Sun, gives Anon immense will power, if she wants to do something, she'll go to any length to do it.
  • Midpoint Pictures
  • Saturn = Uranus/Neptune [Saturn is in it's natural sign, Capricorn making it super serious - activating the Uranus (experimentation with New Age topics - psychic experiences, astrology, even computers) and Neptune (illusions, making dreams a reality, somewhat prone to addictions ..substance abuse)..Anon is serious about what she believes in - but often her purpose is clouded by illusions, by secrets, and forces outside her control. Here's someone who has the patience to do what she wants..but most of the time she doesn't know what it is. Also, Uranus here makes unique aproaches to problem solving. It's has rebellious tendencies -mentally.. but often restrains itself maintaining self-control.(capricorn).
  • Pluto=Jupiter/MC [ Pluto like I said is in a strong position, activating her MC (recognition) and Jupiter (the house, family issues) - notice that Jupiter here is Retrograde so family life gets better in the later in life.
  • Moon = Venus/Jupiter [What do you have when the Moon is 'out of bounds' - running away from all the planets in your chart? Someone with unique emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Here's someone whose opinions are rarely similar to the public. Here, the Moon dominates this person's relationships [venus] and [family]. We can expect moodiness with friends, family, and other closed ones who get sick of Anon's bipolar whining. Originally, Venus and Jupiter are cheery planets - but their placement here isn't so happy. Venus is in both 11th [hopes & wishes, friends, groups] and 12th [hidden enemies, secret affairs, psychic experiences] so Venus get's a bit confused about her role - she doesn't know whom to attract, the friend or the best friend's husband. Venus in this chart is sort of destined for doom - probably Anon will never find the 'one'. Jupiter is retrograde .. which sucks because the King [Jupiter] doesn't like staying indoors.. and retrograde is basically 'in the mind'. So, I'd say these placements make Anon's life mystical, unique.. but there's tragedy lurking around somewhere.
  • Aries Point = Mercury/Jupiter [ AP - aries point is special in a chart, and this chart's AP activates the Mercury/Jupiter midpoint.. Now Mercury here is well placed, but fluttering around.. bored easily, so.. not focused. There's a strong chance that Anon is articulate, good with words.. with conversations. Jupiter like I said before isn't in a happy position, but since it's 'in the mind' this is a good thing. The mind is quick, yet aimless. There's also memories from childhood, most of them bad that this person holds on to... and those memories somehow inspire Anon to bring in front of the world. Mercury/Jupiter are fighting for self-expression, they want to come out.. and meet the world, without thinking about the positive or negative of that wish - Aries Point makes their wish come true. One more note, AP here is strongly placed in Aries and 3rd house of communication..so this midpoint will definitely make it to the world.
  • Venus = Moon/Saturn Let's come up with a keyword for this one. COLD. But how so? Let's see. Venus like I said before, is not very happy.. it's confused and tired.. depressed.. yet attractive. Venus being stuck in the middle of 11th and 12th house.. could be described as the Tragic Beauty. So, tragic love affairs. But still why so? Moon is rebellious here, it has more authority - or so it feels than any other planet in this chart, it's important.. and moody. Saturn is in the 12th house of self control, now we all know how serious Saturn can be, and here it's serious about sacrifice. Anon can sacrifice anything, and everything.. There's this feeling of 'not deserving happiness', it's a frustrating placement for Saturn. Back to the question. Why Cold? Because, This person believes she must sacrifice her happiness to attain peace. Artistic ability is strong in this midpoint, so chances are Anon is creative and she does have some artistic talent.. and it so happens that she dwells in her own world so much that the loved ones flee.
  • Neptune= Sun/Saturn [Just by looking at this midpoint, you should get an eerie feeling. There's nothing 'normal' about this picture. Neptune is in the 12th house, very comfortable.. here Neptune is free to explore the psychic world, easy access to the supernatural..and plenty of substances to try. Okay, the substances part was a joke, but hey Neptune in the 12th house is known for it's not so wise dependencies. Sun is bipolar.. but interestingly useful, and Saturn is delusional about self-sacrifice. What does all this sum up to? Mystical experiences through solitude, self-sacrifice, & exploration of the supernatural world.
  • Overall, this chart is hard to describe in a few words. But we see a lot of duality here. There's Artistic talent yet no ambition. There's lots of potential [12th house stellium] but no opportunities early in life [Jupiter retrograde]. Bad Memories from childhood affects the relationships [ Moon out of bounds, Venus is in 11th and 12th at the same time]. Serious, persistent, and darn stubborn about self-sacrifice [saturn in 12th in capricorn]. Attracted to the supernatural - oh and substance dependencies.

Linux

Linux

Born September 17, 1991

Quick Points

  • Saturn is in 0 degrees Aquarius [new age, IT,computers, technological advancements] and in the 8th house[house of shared resources] - it's a OS system.. which assumes the responsibility (saturn) for it's users..does all the hard work for them, to make the program easier.
  • Uranus, Neptune, & Moon are in the 6th house[house of work] Having Uranus in the 6th house alone directs toward a career in the technical field.
  • Neptune is in 0 degrees Capricorn, so it's strong - Neptune is the dreamer, and in Capricorn, it dreams 'realistic'.. and actually works hard to make the dream come true.
  • Pluto in the 5th house(Scorpio) of play and experimentation. Needless to say Linux goes through experimenting all day. Their fun has to do with risks.
  • Venus & Jupiter are in 0 degrees [very potent] in the 3rd house of communication. Linux deals with the public in a fun(venus) and cheery(jupiter) way. They make the learning process sound like playtime.
  • Empty 10th house (world recognition) but the ruler of the 10th house is in 6th house, So - Linux doesn't really believe in anything other than service. It's not big on advertising, they keep it on the low and do their work. Basically, their motto is 'work speaks for itself' no need for promotion.
  • 2nd house [money] is empty but the ruler, Moon is in the 6th house. Again, these people aren't bent on money making much - they simply love the work they do, it's their emotional need to do their work and money eventually follows.
  • Something interesting I need to add: Notice that Linux's Ascendant (appearance to the world) is in Cancer - did you see their Logo, the cute penguin? See a similarity? Cancer is a water sign, and it's known for it's emotional, cute, and motherly image.
  • Midpoint Configurations
  • Uranus = Jupiter/Pluto [ Again and again, successful business/people have at least one of their planets activate the powerfully majestic jupiter/pluto midpoint. Here, we see techno Uranus (rules computers, internet, etc) activates Jupiter(knowledge) and Pluto (experimentation) - Linux finds success through sharing their knowledge and being open to changes for the sake of technological advancement.
  • Saturn = Venus/ Uranus -- again, Saturn is reponsible for the usability of Linux, it activates Venus(creativity) and Uranus (technological change) indicating that Linux takes their job very seriously, and that they are persistent hardworkers.
  • Neptune = Mercury/Pluto [ Neptune was in a critical degree when Linux was born, so it's important in this chart - Neptune's dream to make it's dream come true activates Mercury (communication, ideas, inventions within traditional settings[4th house]) and Pluto (experimentation) -- this midpoint may explain how the birth of Linux actually happened. According to Answers.com, "In 1991, Linus Torvalds began to work on a non-commercial replacement for MINIX while he was attending the University of Helsinki.[7] This eventually became the Linux kernel." Universities,Houses,Schools, etc are ruled by the 4th house, it also rules a parent but that's for natal analysis. So, Linux was born to make a dream come true (Neptune) in a traditional setting (university of helsinky) [4th house], and it was an innovative idea (mercury).
  • In short, Linux's chart has a strong focus on service, work, and hospitality to the world. Not big on publicity and fame, and they're okay with that.

Rising

This is the chart of a fairly new website.
[I haven't asked for permission yet to reveal the name of the website so you'll have to bear with the repetitive "this website" in this post, but I'll soon ask for permission.]

Here's some quick analysis :

  • Jupiter and Pluto are in Sagittarius and in the first house (how the world sees you), It's a sign of success - to the world, this website appears powerful (pluto) and people believe in it's potential (jupiter in Sagittarius). This website should expect many investors because of that.
  • Moon and Neptune in the 2nd house of Money making. Moon is emotional but it's in an earth sign (capricorn) and so is Neptune. Basically what this points towards is that This website isn't entirely focused on mad money making - it wants profits for a purpose. A purpose that's practical and realistic. And even though, moon and neptune are 'crazy' planets, when they're in the serious earth sign, you can expect them to be more mature and decisive when it comes to money matters.
  • Mars is strongly placed. Mars in a business is the drive, energy - determination needed to run the business, and when you have that in the 7th house, we have aggressive advertising. We want to come across the public as strong, and intimidating to the competitors.
Midpoint Pictures

  • Mars = Jupiter/Pluto [orb 0 degrees] Ruthless business tactics that lead to success. There's a bold and direct approach to business that gets respect from competitors, even fear. This aspect definitely calls for financial success.
  • Saturn = Moon/MC - Saturn is in the house of learning, and Moon in money matters - and MC represents our potential for success - notice that Saturn is in leo (a fire sign), it behaves differently than what it usually does. This Saturn is flamboyant, needs attention so it fights for it. Moon is in an air sign (libra), not very distracted, more focused on how to make a better world. What that could mean is this website attracts people promising a change, a change that's in the best interest of everyone..but usually the true motive behind that is fame.
  • MC = Sun/ Venus - MC is in the sign of libra (air). and sun is in fire, venus is in water - that makes this configuration interesting. Sun and Venus together breathe positivity, creativity, and a good image - to the public (MC).

In short, all the aspects indicate success. All the planets are in scattered signs, that means that this website gives off a unique vibe and is attractive.

The Birth of Google

That's the event chart for Google (born September 7 1998, in Menlo Park,California).

Just randomly looking at the chart :
  • Venus is in a 0 degree. Very attractive - to every home (4th house). Google is used more by the folks at home, and/or traditional settings such as schools.
  • Jupiter in the 10th is a sign of success. Jupiter touches this house and triples it's potential. Google is majestic in the search industry.
  • Pluto Square Midheaven - another successful aspect. Pluto is will power and when you apply that to the business, you eventually get results.
Midpoint Pictures
Orbs within 1 degree
  • Asc = Saturn/Uranus [ Saturn is in the house of hopes and wishes (11th) and Uranus is in the house of learning.] Can this explain how Google is viewed as a Humanitarian , Google gives back to the education system, it encourages more IT growth.
  • Neptune = Pluto/Jupiter [ Both Noel Tyl, and his students agree that the Jupiter/Pluto midpoint , when activated is powerful. Neptune is in the 7th house of the PUBLIC, Google profits directly from the people. It's charming in it's approach and attractive to us all. And look at the placements of Jupiter (1oth),and Pluto (6th) both related to work and public recognition.. this is big.
  • MC = MERCURY/VENUS [ Another successful aspect, Mercury is in a strong placement - house of communication, Venus next to it basically enhances the style of Google's approach. They not only create 'intelligent' codes, but also change their looks frequently.
All of these configurations can be used to explain Google's immense public fame, and success.

In short, after seeing Google's chart, you'd see how this it's a beauty with brains.

Something new

I don't understand the point of blogging about something that has been written a thousand times already. So, I thought of all the astro-stuff that has been popular over the past few years - questions like ' what's in stock for my future', 'are we a match made in heaven', etc comes to mind. Where do all of these boil down to?

Predictive Astrology

And there's on going debate over which method is best for predicting the future. Some consider transits important, because they're the most common and fairly easy to do. Others rely on Progressions.. and the Uranian believers think of one word : Solar Directions. No one method works for all. I've tried transits, they can be accurate. Always keep the orb in mind. An aspect with an orb of 0-1 degree is the strongest, and most likely to happen in your life. Aspects between two planets have over a million combinations, so generalizing about them is bogus.

Some basic rules of predicting

  • Your question is related to a planet. Ex. relationships -- look for Venus, where it is in your chart, is it making any strong aspects with another planet? I remember the last time Venus conjuncted Pluto, people went through transformations in their relationships. Venus is not always a relationship, it can also mean social status - look at the natal placement and it should get easy.
  • Orbs. Controversial in astrology - I personally believe the orb should be between 0 and 1. O being the strongest. Some planets are 'generational' , they move slow - saturn takes 7 years to change a sign, pluto takes 7 years as well.. but whenever these planets make an exact aspect to your natal planets, you're bound to 'feel' something. What you feel depends on your natal planet, the house it's in - and the sign it's in.
  • Solar Arc (aka. Solar Directions) give actual dates, and I've been amazed at their accuracy. Thing is, they're very rare. You should get a Solar Arc major aspect in 6 months, or even a year.. they don't occur that often, so each and every aspect (square, conjunct, quintile, quindecile) makes a deep impact.

Talking to the Planets

First step to any astro-analysis is going to be Natal. So, no matter what you're looking for.. you have to go straight to where it all began.Noel Tyl loves midpoints. Midpoint theory *originally known as cosmobiology (founder Reinhold Ebertin) looks like this :

*Before you start midpoints, I suggest you find a good astro-software. I use Janus V4. But if you're looking for a free (great) alternative, I recommend you download Midpoint by Astrowin from here
http://www.astrowin.org/midpoint.htm

planetA = planetB/planetC

whenever a planet falls in between two planets, it's a sensitive line - if you have a basic knowledge of the planets, you'd make an accurate analysis. For example, sun = jupiter/venus .. here's someone who's lucky. Jupiter is a lucky planet, Venus is attractive, artistic and charismatic.. the Sun is creative, proud, and confident and has a over all 'sunny' aspect to it. So, the line between jupiter and venus can be viewed as 'prosperous love affairs' or ' fame in the artistic field' .. and having Sun there definitely helpes the individual be confident about his/her abilities as an artist - or be happy in a relationship. They tend to attract the right people.. be at the right place at the right time.

So, a midpoint is a line between two planets..and the feel of the two planets becomes one 'point' and the third planet hitting that point, affects our lives. It seems confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it with practice.

For my first example, I'm going to talk about the following chart :

I always sort the midpoint by the orb. The orb should be within 1 degree. No more.

The first midpoint picture in this chart is :

saturn = uranus/neptune

Uranus is the eccentric, Neptune the artist..spiritual victim.. or guru.. this line between uranus and neptune is somewhat freaky. We can call it the 'weird supernatural experiences' - since uranus also rules hi-fi technology, and neptune - alcohol, and drugs.. this can be the classic nerd-on-drugs-too-much-brain-activity-leaning-on-illegal-substances line. You get the picture. Okay, Saturn.. the stern, stoic, cold..disciplined..controlled and serious.. when Saturn hits this freaky line.. we expect someone to be calculating towards new experiences, someone who is outright doubtful of the NEW AGE. He/she will restrict the hippie instincts that come with the uranus/neptune midpoint.. this person will think they've gone mentally instable when they see a ghost.. believing there's no such thing.

Moon = Ascendant/Midheaven ..

The moon is emotional. Dramatic a bit.. just plain motherly. Ascendant is not a planet, but a very personal point in the horoscope (it changes according to your birthplace).. and the Midheaven is also a very important part of your chart..because it changes according to your time of birth. crucial in any astro-analysis.
Ascendant signifies your projection to the world.. how you appear, and the Midheaven is your profession..how you survive in this society, what you do to exist. Okay.. so, having the Moon in this crucial midpoint line means everything you do, whoever you appear to be - is controlled by your emotions. You are an emotional being, and you cannot function without using your emotions. This sounds like someone who's whiny or nuts - truth is, these people can be a little crazy..but they're deep people, you'd want to be part of their family because they'd always take care of you.

Last midpoint picture for the day :

Aries Point = Mercury/Jupiter

Once again, the Aries Point is not a planet, but netherless a very sensitive point in the chart. Aries Point(aka. AP) is zero-degree aries in a chart, shows our drive..our X-FACTOR, where we will succeed..now, Mercury is a mental planet..intellectual, conversationist, quirky..a bit nerdy - very changeable, it's associated with Gemini (twins) so you get the picture - Jupiter like I said before, is a happy-go-lucky planet, not big on thinking, does whatever it pleases and usually get's whatever it wants - Zeus was known as Jupiter, so it has a 'king' like feel to it - so,

AP = MERCURY/JUPITER - People with this midpoint picture, can be successful by writing, they give great speeches, articulate beings by nature - talking to the right people at the right time. Their claim to fame would definitely be in the writing field.

I'll be back with more midpoint pictures.

Questions are welcome.
